Mam-Yassin Sarr is the Co-founder and director of Starfish International, a nonprofit organization that seeks to advance humanity through girls’ education and service-learning opportunities in The Gambia, West Africa. The mission of Starfish International is to empower Gambian girls by providing them with an advanced education that is focused on service to humanity, while at the same time providing international service-learning opportunities for volunteers. The Starfish International vision is to establish a state of the art academy of excellence that will provide the Gambian girl-child an exceptional education from pre-school to graduate school. Every participant in this endeavor, including administrators, teachers, volunteers, and students, will be motivated by the end goal of service to humanity and challenged to find effective ways of infusing service to others into their daily work. Mam-Yassin Sarr is a Baha'i. She lives in Brewerton, New York with her husband and two children, but spends most of the year in The Gambia educating girls. She enjoys traveling, service projects, reading, and fundraising for Starfish International.
