Mark Stone is an American Baha’i and musician/educator from Michigan. As an Associate Professor of Music at Oakland University, he coordinates the school’s world music and percussion programs. Mark is also the Arts Area Leader for the OU/Pontiac Initiative and a member of the Pontiac Arts Commission. Through the OU/Pontiac Initiative, he recently launched a Soul Food Concert Series. Prof. Stone is recognized internationally for his work in global percussion performance and education. He has performed with the foremost musicians of Uganda, Ghana, Trinidad, South Africa, India, Ecuador, and the United States. Through Prof. Stone's dedication to the study of Dagara Gyil music, the Gyil Guba elders of Hiineteng, Ghana recently honored him with the title of "Gyil Guba" in recognition of his completion of the Gyil Goba initiation this past December.
