A Conversation About Race with My Father

The diversity in the human family should be the cause of love and harmony, as it is in music where many different notes blend together in the making of a perfect chord. If you meet those of a different race and colour from yourself, do not mistrust them and withdraw yourself into your shell of conventionality, but rather be glad and show them kindness. — Abdu’l-Baha, The Advent of Divine Justice, p.32

Ymasumac Maronan Davis is a nimble, fluid interpreter of literacies, both verbal and spiritual. As an educator, poet, public speaker, and intuitive healer, rooted in the cultural traditions of the Quechau people of Bolivia, and the transcendent teachings of the Baha’i Faith, she utilizes the diverse methodologies of her practice to build community across lines of division. In this episode of America’s Most Challenging Issue, we unpack the unique streams of cultural confluence flowing in her veins, and how these seemingly incongruent ways of ‘knowing’ facilitate her work as an artist and contributor to the cause of the oneness of mankind.
