“I’ve felt the uneasy tension that non-diverse environments can provide,” says Kayla Taylor, a young black, white and Hispanic ballerina. Kayla, raised in the ultra-diverse Baha’i community, becomes aware of something the ballet world doesn’t like to shine a light on: that there isn’t much diversity there. “We must understand that we are one human family,” she says, “so look around the room.
